Description

The first season in which Panini has to manage without an NFL license brings fans of the Panini Obsidian series a mix of NFL legends and young, up-and-coming talents from college teams. After taking a break last year, the series returns with a slightly modified concept, now covering the periods before and after the players’ active NFL careers.

Base Cards

The collection’s BASE SET consists of 99 cards and presents collectors with a mix of NFL legends and those who might one day follow in their footsteps: the current stars of college teams.

Parallels

Collectors can look forward to 10 different parallel variants, nine of which are numbered to /149 or lower. They are complemented by the unnumbered Contour parallels.

These also include three variants that Panini has reserved exclusively for the First off the Line (FOTL) boxes: the Deep Sea Mojo parallels numbered to /21, the Lava Flow parallels numbered to /7 and the Neon parallels numbered to /3.

Insert Cards

Among the inserts, alongside ATOMIC INITIALS and FIRE & ICE, collectors will find many familiar names from the Obsidian series, such as the highly sought-after BLACK COLOR BLAST and BLACK COLOR BLAST DUAL inserts, as well as NUCLEUS and VITREOUS.

These are joined by BLACK STAINED GLASS, which also falls into the case hit category, and the even rarer BLACK STAINED GLASS DUAL inserts.

Autograph, Relic & Autograph Relic Cards

Panini has planned 4 categories for each of the three types of cards: autograph, relic and autograph relic cards. Collectors can look forward to autographs and memorabilia from Drew Brees, Eli & Peyton Manning, Luke Kuechly, Aaron Donald, John Elway, Kurt Warner, Rob Gronkowski and many other former NFL stars.

Collectors also have the chance to get their hands on autographs and jersey pieces from young college stars who still have most of their careers ahead of them.

Availability

Each hobby box of the collection contains 1 pack with 7 cards. According to Panini, these should include 1 autograph relic card, 1 autograph card and 2 relic cards.

The release date announced by Panini for 2026 PANINI Obsidian Football Cards is Wednesday, the 21st of October 2026. Short-term changes to this date are possible at any time and should be taken into account.

From that date, the boxes will be available from the Panini America online shop or retailers specializing in sports cards.
