Beschreibung
After a disappointing 2007/08 season, in which the success-spoiled FC Barcelona team had failed to win a title for the second consecutive year, the Catalan club’s management decided it was time for a major overhaul. They parted ways with stars such as Deco and Ronaldinho, saw Lilian Thuram retire, and Frank Rijkaard, who had been in charge as head coach until then, also had to leave his position.
For this fresh start, the club turned to a former player who, in his first coaching role, had just guided Barcelona’s reserve team back into Spain’s third division. Josep Guardiola Sala, better known as Pep Guardiola, immediately impressed with his newly assembled squad in his very first season.
The team, still packed with attacking stars such as Xavi, Lionel Messi, Samuel Eto’o, Andrés Iniesta and Thierry Henry, was further strengthened defensively by the arrival of Gerard Pique, Dani Alves and Sergio Busquets. This allowed Guardiola and his team to win 3 titles in their very first season, claiming the Spanish league title, the Spanish Cup and the UEFA Champions League, and thus securing the first treble in the history of Spanish football.
The new 2024 TOPPS FC Barcelona Triplete 2008-09 Soccer Cards set is dedicated to this extraordinary achievement and to one of the greatest teams in the history of club football, even to this day.
Autograph Cards
13 different, high-quality Autograph Cards featuring players and the coach from that team await collectors. These are joined by 2 Dual Autograph Cards and 2 Triple Autograph Cards, which are undoubtedly among the highlights of the set.
Parallels
The cards come in 7 numbered tiers. The standard versions of the cards are numbered to /99. These are followed by the Parallels, descending through /75, /49, /25, /10 and /5, all the way down to the 1/1 cards, with only 1 copy of each produced.
Although Topps has not provided any specific details on this, it can be assumed that the Dual Autograph Cards and Triple Autograph Cards are only available in the lower-numbered versions within the collection.
Availability
Each FC Barcelona Triplete 2008/09 box contains 5 Autograph Cards, which Topps has arranged side by side in a kind of presentation display. To protect them, the cards are encased in 130pt magnetic holders and nestled into a thick layer of foam.
The release date announced by Topps for 2024 TOPPS FC Barcelona Triplete 2008-09 Soccer Cards is Tuesday, the 21st of May 2024.
From that date, the boxes will initially be available exclusively through the Topps online shop. Once the boxes have been produced and shipped, approximately 4-6 weeks later, they should also be available from retailers specializing in sports cards.
