Description
The 2021 TOPPS Chrome Sapphire Edition Tennis Cards bring Sapphire cards featuring the stars and legends of tennis to collectors for the first time. Members of the Topps 582 Montgomery Club have the right to purchase the box one day before the official release, before it is subsequently offered to all collectors as an online-exclusive release in the Topps online shop.
Base Cards
The BASE SET takes the 100 cards from the 2021 Chrome Tennis main collection and gives them the typical blue look and pattern of the Sapphire collections.
The EXTENDED BASE SET adds an exclusive base card of Emma Raducanu to the collection that is only included in the Sapphire Edition. In the previously released Chrome main collection, she was represented only by an autograph card.
Parallels
A colorful rainbow of 9 different parallel variants in the Sapphire look awaits collectors. The highest-numbered variant is numbered to /299, bringing an unusually high numbering for Sapphire releases to the collection. The other numberings are Aqua /199, White /99, Green /75, Gold /50, Orange /25, Purple /10, Red /5 and the Padparadscha 1/1 variant, which exists only once per card.
Insert Cards
Of the 3 insert categories from the Chrome main collection, Topps has carried 2 over into the Sapphire Edition, allowing collectors to look forward to cards in the two categories ACES and RING OF HONOR.
Autograph Cards
While Topps had initially announced autograph cards of Emma Raducanu, Coco Gauff, Billie Jean King, Gigi Fernandez and Chris Evert for the Sapphire Edition to members of the 582 Montgomery Club, it appears that by the time of release, only the autograph version of the card from the Extended Base Set featuring Emma Raducanu remained.
However, this cannot be conclusively verified, as Topps did not publish a checklist for the collection and all checklist information for the collection was manually compiled by collectors.
Availability
Each hobby box of the 2021 TOPPS Chrome Sapphire Edition Tennis collection contains 32 cards, spread across 8 packs with 4 cards each. According to Topps, these always include 2 numbered parallel cards.
The release date announced by Topps for 2021 TOPPS Chrome Sapphire Edition Tennis Cards is Wednesday, the 21st of June 2023.
From that date, the boxes are available in the Topps online shop. Members of the Topps 582 Montgomery Club have the right to purchase the boxes from the collection one day earlier.
